| Case |
A 15 year old girl presented with multiple episodes of haemetemesis since 3 years. She was found to have large oesophageal varices on UGI Endoscopy and a diagnosis of portal hypertension was made. On examinations she had a massive splenomegaly. Her ultrasonography revealed a massively enlarged spleen and portal vein cavernoma formation without ascites. |

She was operated by Dr. Sanjiv Haribhakti on 9th September, 2002 at Sterling Hospital. A laparoscopic hand assisted splenectomy and lienorenal shunt was performed. She had a normal liver with a large spleen. Operative time was 6 hours and she was transfused one unit of RBC during the surgery. She recovered uneventfully and was discharged in 5 days after surgery. |

On followup on 22rd April, 2004, Nisha is in excellent health and studying for her 10th class exams. |
