Stomach
Name Vasantiben Brahmkumari

Case A 55 year lady, presented with absolute dysphagia. She was operated for hiatus hernia – fundoplication was performed by another surgeon. She developed acute pain in the chest and left sided hydropneumothorax which was drained with intercostal tube drainage. She subsequently developed acute dysphagia and presented to Dr. Sanjiv Haribhakti.

She was evaluated by barium swallow which showed a complete obstruction at the level of hiatus. An UGI Endosocpy showed a tight wrap, no intrinsic stricture. She was diagnosed as having a slipped nissen fundoplication and was re-explored by Dr. Sanjiv Haribhakti on 20th November, 2002 at Jivaraj Mehta Hospital. The previous fundoplication was dismantled and a new Nissen Fundoplication was created. The surgery was extremely difficult due to dense adhesions secondary to previous surgery and subsequent complications of fundal leak and slipped wrap.

Now one and a half years after the surgery, Vasantiben is leading a normal life in Bangalore teaching meditation to people.
